Sweet Summertime

Farewell summer…it seems that you just arrived and *poof* you’re already gone. Those of you who read my rant post about our challenging winter know that I was pretty much living for warmth and sunshine and boy did I enjoy it! It was quite a warm summer and as promised, I didn’t complain about the heat once!

What We Did Last Summer

Heat pump and (more)insulation! We had our heat pump installed in May, just in time for the hot weather. It kept us nice and comfortable all summer and didn’t break the bank (I was really scared to see the first electric bill)! I am optimistic that it will keep us toasty warm this winter as well. Robert and Rachel braved the basement and crawlspace to add more insulation. It was a dirty job and I wasn’t going to do it!IMG_1488

Wattle Fence! We built a decorative fence for the garden and it has held up well but we will need to do some repairs in the spring due to big chicken behinds. Shout out to Rachel for rockin’ the country girl look!

The garden was very successful producing the longest green beans I’ve ever seen and the tallest okra plant ever…it grew to over 14 feet tall!

Doors! I stained and polyurethaned (yes, that’s a verb around here) the unfinished bedroom doors.

Kittens! Merry and Pippin were adopted from the humane society and settled right in. They are adorable maniacs.

Chicken Coop and Shed! Yay for storage and CHICKENS!

Then…CHICKENS! CHICKENS! CHICKENS! I can’t believe we have chickens! Did I mention that we got our chickens???? We planned to start with 6 but we have 16…see my previous post about Chicken Math and it will explain everything.

That about covers all of the projects that were completed last summer. We still have a couple of big ones in progress…windows that are almost done and a new kitchen. Yesssss, an upstairs, not from the 80’s kitchen. That’s almost as exciting my CHICKENS!

That’s called Chicken Math amongst us chicken peoples.

    😀

And of course, I see you already know about that concept!

Oh yes, Chicken Math! I have a dozen chicks coming this month and a broody sitting on four eggs for a maximum chicken potential of thirty one (Mr. Prince was re-homed),
